Elaine Stritch At Liberty at Hartford Stage June 24 - 29

Tony Award-Winning Broadway Legend Plays Limited Six Show Engagement

June 13, 2008/Hartford, CT . . . A theatrical legend will take center stage in Hartford this summer and treat audiences to her unique blend of song styling and show-biz storytelling.  A special limited engagement of the Tony Award-winning Elaine Stritch At Liberty, written and performed by one of the all time great ladies of theatre, will play at Hartford Stage from June 24 - 29.

Having stolen so many moments on stage that she could be convicted of grand larceny, this tough but charming "Broadway Baby" with the still-shapely legs and deep whiskey voice isn't quitting anytime soon.  She became the toast of Broadway for her award winning turns in Bus Stop, Pal Joey, Company, and Showboat.  At Liberty chronicles her notorious private life - add to that a fair share of Hollywood gossip all joyously packaged with show-stopping songs and you have Elaine Stritch At Liberty.  Truly one of a kind!

A brash, incorrigible scene-stealer now entering her sixth decade in a career that has had many highs and lows, veteran Elaine Stritch certainly lives up to the Stephen Sondheim song "I'm Still Here." Debuting on Broadway in 1946, Stritch has since become the toast of both New York and London's West End, collecting a number of trophies on both continents over the years for such award-winning turns as Bus Stop, Sail Away, A Delicate Balance, Show Boat, and Company.  At age 83, Elaine is still throwing out zingers on stage, copping the Tony, Drama Desk, Obie, Outer Circle Critics, and New York Drama Critics awards for At Liberty

Rob Bowman (Music Director/Pianist) has been involved with Elaine Stritch At Liberty since its inception and has served as Music Director/Pianist for every performance on Broadway, New York's Public Theater, The Old Vic in London and in many cities throughout the United States. He was the Associate Producer for the Grammy-nominated cast album and was featured in the Emmy award-winning HBO documentary about the production.  He collaborated and performed with Miss Stritch on both "Elaine Stritch at Home at The Carlyle" and "Elaine Stritch at Home at The Carlyle...Again" at the Café Carlyle in New York City.  He served as Music Director for the Broadway production of Chicago for five years and conducted the National Tour.  He is the composer for Hot Mikado which is performed in the United States and throughout the world.  His musical score for A Christmas Carol was performed every yuletide season from 1986 to 2003 at the Ford's Theater in Washington, DC.  Mr. Bowman has conducted numerous shows on and off Broadway, national tours, and at regional theaters throughout the country.
